A correctional officer at the Wyatt Detention Center has admitted to smuggling contraband into the prison, a federal court news release from U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha says.

Kristopher White, 26, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to provide contraband in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 15.

The incident in December 2021 involved a Wyatt inmate’s text messages and telephone calls, which revealed that the inmate was working with people outside the prison to bring drugs into the facility, prosecutors say.

White was approached by the inmate and agreed to smuggle the drugs into the prison. White met with an associate of his to get the drugs soaked with a controlled substance, MDMB-4en-PINACA, prosecutors say.

On December 2, White left work at the Wyatt facility, went to his vehicle in the parking lot, and took the MDMB-4en-PINACA-soaked papers out of the vehicle and back into the facility to give to the detainee, prosecutors say. White was stopped by authorities and taken to the Wyatt Professional Standards Unit.

The sentencing hearing for White will be held in August 2024. The sentence will be determined by federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors, prosecutors say.
