The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) provided the following update on the Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2 project today.

Next week, daytime right lane closures are scheduled for fiber optic and lighting utilities within the shoulder on Route 138, from the Pell Bridge to the JT Connell Connector, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Although no lane closures are anticipated, we’ll also grade the new Park and Ride area prior to installing new sidewalks and concrete surfaces to accommodate buses, and paving, and continue to remove the existing infrastructure at the old “Road to Nowhere” while preparing the area for loam and seed this spring. Businesses remain open during construction, and traffic personnel onsite to assist.

According to the project page on RIDOT’s website, the following is the projected schedule and cost;

  • Start Phase 1 Construction: 2020
  • Finish Phase 1 Construction: 2021 | ($10.9 million) focus on the reconstruction of JT Connell Highway and Coddington Highway
  • Start Phase 2 Construction: 2021 | ($74 million) focuses on the ramp interchange itself
  • Finish Phase 2 Construction: 2024
  • Total Projected Cost: $84.9 Million
  • Detours Needed: TBD
