It’s time to sing! The Newport Sings Youth Chorus program offers a free seven-week after-school chorus program for grades 1-6 students. The program is open to all students and includes various music, soulful tunes, and lively Jamaican beats.

The Newport Sings Chorus program is divided into two age groups: Prep Chorus for students in grades 1-3 and Pre-teen Chorus for students in grades 4-6. Session 4 begins the week of March 11 and is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Martin Luther King Community Center in Newport and Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown. Bus transportation is provided for students from Pell Elementary to the MLK Center.

The final Newport County Youth Chorus session of 2023 – 2024 is “It’s Elemental: Earth, Wind, Air and Fire.” Singers will learn various music that includes soulful tunes and lively Jamaican beats. Participants will get to perform at the Newport Sings “Song Fest” on Saturday, May 4.

There is no audition to participate in the program, and all sessions are free! If you want to sign up, contact sing@newportsings.org or sign up online. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) assisted a What’sUpNewp journalist with the reporting included in this story.
