With approval of a resolution on Wednesday at Newport City Council’s meeting, City Administration will review the existing ordinances related to where scooters are allowed to park and report back to the City Council a plan that will ease up on the current parking restrictions associated with scooters.
The resolution was introduced by Newport City Councilor John Florez.
As reported by What’sUpNewp on July 27th an effort by the City of Newport to resurrect a never used law to require mopeds to occupy regular car parking spaces, is being met with strong resistance from many of the city’s moped owners.
The controversy erupted when parking enforcement officers have told several moped owners that city officials told them to begin ticketing moped that were not parked in legitimate car spaces.
Mayor Napolitano made a comment during the discussion that she would like to see what the City could do about allowing multiple mopeds to park in one space, and that it’s disappointing to see one moped taking up a full space sometimes.
