Common Burying Ground

On today’s edition of The Open Forum on 1540 AM WADK Newport I was joined by Scott Wheeler, Building & Grounds Supervisor for the City Of Newport, and Matt McEntee from Friends of Island Cemetery from 12:30pm to 2pm.

While our conversation touched on topics such as Newport Daffodil Days Festival, Keeping History Above Water, Newport Arboretum Week and the elevator at Newport City Hall; the majority of our conversation was (somewhat) focused on Newport’s upcoming celebration and plans for  “RI Historic Cemetery Restoration & Awareness Day.”

Friends of Island Cemetery, Newport Historical Society, Belmont Chapel Foundation, and the Newport Restoration Foundation are coming together to offer tours of Newport’s historic cemeteries on Saturday, April 16th.

You can read more about the day here – Newport Set to Celebrate ‘RI Historic Cemetery Restoration and Awareness Day’ With Walking Tours – and hear a lot more about the day below.
