Umbrella Sky Newport Returns for Its 4th Season: Flowers in Bloom

The Umbrella Sky art installation returns to Brick Market Place for a fourth consecutive year, opening May 23 with a new theme transforming the sky into a floating garden.

This season’s theme, “Flowers in Bloom,” features colorful umbrellas painted with bold botanical designs. The theme extends throughout the installation, incorporating garden trellises and vibrant hanging blooms to create what organizers describe as a secret garden atmosphere.

“This year’s Umbrella Sky is more than an art installation — it’s a full sensory experience,” said David Medeiros, director of ArtScape, the nonprofit behind the exhibit. “We’re expanding our canvas beyond the sky and incorporating new exhibit areas throughout the plaza. People are naturally imaginative, and the installation is designed to inspire the human impulse to create. Our goal is to broaden the fantasy and playfulness of the space, to create the perfect backdrop for visitors to explore, linger, and connect with the exhibit.”

Installed in a car-free thoroughfare at Goddard Row, the free, all-ages exhibit is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset through Oct. 24, weather permitting. Visitors are encouraged to explore during daylight hours for the full visual effect.

The installation also features a summer concert series with live performances on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, beginning May 23 with New England Music Award winner Avi Jacob.
