Three Rhode Island state campgrounds will open for the season on Friday, April 10, the state Department of Environmental Management announced.
Charlestown Breachway, Fishermen’s Memorial and George Washington Memorial state campgrounds will welcome campers just in time for spring school vacation and trout fishing season. East Beach State Campground will open Friday, May 22.
Burlingame State Campground will open later in May due to ongoing work to modernize its showers and restrooms. DEM said reservations for the 2026 camping season at Burlingame will be delayed as a result and asked campers to check the project webpage for updates.
Fishermen’s Memorial in Narragansett offers tent and RV camping, basketball, tennis, horseshoes and a playground, along with a weekly RI Grown farmers market on Sundays from May through October. The campground is minutes from Scarborough, Roger Wheeler and Salty Brine state beaches and one mile from the Block Island ferry.
At Fishermen’s Memorial, George Washington and Burlingame, campers can use a pre-check-in option that allows them to register online at least two days before arrival. A second car pass can also be added up to one day in advance.
DEM’s Division of Parks & Recreation will notify past campers by email and text when seasonal reservations open. Campers should ensure their Reserve America account information is up to date to receive alerts.
Reservations can be made at riparks.ri.gov/campgrounds. DEM is also hiring seasonal staff, including lifeguards and park rangers. Information on open positions is available at dem.ri.gov.
