Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa announced Thursday he is seeking re-election, releasing a campaign video featuring his children and partner while highlighting his first-term record of fiscal management and programs aimed at working families.

“As Treasurer, my job has always been about more than numbers — it’s about people,” Diossa said. “Every investment decision we make, every program we launch, is about helping Rhode Islanders build a stronger financial future. I’m running for re-election to keep delivering results and to continue investing in the people of this state.”

During his first term, Diossa said the state’s pension fund grew from less than $10 billion to more than $13 billion, consistently outperforming its actuarial assumed rate of return while reducing risk. Rhode Island also received a bond rating upgrade to AA+ from Fitch and maintained high marks from Moody’s and S&P.

Diossa pointed to several initiatives launched under his watch, including RISavers, a retirement savings program for small-business workers launched in October 2025, and RI AnchorHome, which helps first-time homebuyers access 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with below-market interest rates and no private mortgage insurance. His office also partnered to eliminate more than $12 million in medical debt and expanded the state’s CollegeBound Saver 529 education savings program. The Rhode Island ABLE program, which provides tax-advantaged savings accounts for individuals with disabilities, has grown to nearly 800 accounts.

“This campaign is about the future — not just for my family, but for every family in Rhode Island,” Diossa said. “We’ve made real progress, but there’s more work to do. I’m ready to keep fighting for a state where everyone has the chance to thrive.”

Diossa’s campaign is led by chief strategist and campaign manager Erich Haslehurst of Statecraft Strategies, with media strategy overseen by Brad Dufault of Checkmate Consulting Group and Amy Gabbara serving as finance director.
