Diana Vieira

Diana (Staats) Vieira, born January 31, 1950, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Al Vieira, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Diana was the daughter of the late Howard E. Staats, whom she lost at the age of five, and the late Eunice G. Staats, whom she lost at the age of 72. She grew up in Newport, Rhode Island, alongside her brothers, Edward F. (Susan) and Jeffrey L., and spent most of her life in the community she cherished.

She held especially fond memories of her childhood summers at the family camp on Long Pond in Brewster, Massachusetts, where she loved to swim, explore, and share adventures with her brothers and close friends. These early experiences nurtured a lifelong appreciation for nature, family, and life’s simple pleasures-traditions she continued by bringing her own family to the camp for many happy summers.

Diana was a devoted mother to her daughter, Martine Day, who predeceased her on June 28, 2024, and to her son, Jacob Al Vieira (April). She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Damian and Oliver, who brought her immense joy.

She had a deep love of music, especially The Beatles, and she passed that passion on to her children and grandchildren. An avid reader, Diana often stayed up late into the night immersed in books. On warm summer evenings, she found comfort in late-night radio, drawn to its quiet mystery and sense of wonder.

Diana will be remembered for her sharp wit, her curiosity, and the love she shared so generously with her family. Her appreciation for music, stories, and quiet summer nights will remain a lasting echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
