Newport Mental Health has appointed five new members to its board of directors, the organization announced Monday, adding community leaders with backgrounds spanning real estate law, product management, mental health advocacy and nonprofit work.

Sue Metzger, John Toracinta, Ruth Ellen Scott, Patrick Barry-Nolan and Joshua Blumen join the board at what the organization describes as a period of growth.

Metzger is a cum laude graduate of Boston University in communications and is active in charitable work in both Newport and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She currently serves on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County and the Newport Art Museum, among others.

Toracinta is a product manager and marketing professional at the Acushnet Company and co-founder of NOSOLO, a lifestyle apparel brand that supports mental health initiatives worldwide. He holds an MBA from Salve Regina University.

Barry-Nolan is the former co-owner and operator of Boston Harbor Cruises and is active with several Newport-area nonprofits, including the Potter League for Animals and the Preservation Society of Newport County.

Scott is a strategic growth consultant and certified NAMI Family Facilitator who also serves as the volunteer Rhode Island policy director for the National Shattering the Silence Coalition.

Blumen is the managing partner of J. Blumen & Associates, a real estate law firm serving clients across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. A Newport native, he volunteers with Salve Regina University’s Center for Business Outreach and oversees the Blumen Holocaust Collection at McKillop Library.
