PROJECT Trio (Newport Classical)

Newport Classical will present two free community concerts this spring as part of its Community Concerts Series presented by BankNewport, featuring PROJECT Trio in April and Toomai String Quintet in May.

PROJECT Trio will perform Sunday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. at Newport Classical Recital Hall, 42 Dearborn St. The genre-blending trio, praised by Downbeat Magazine for “musicianship, joy, and surprise,” fuses classical, jazz, hip-hop and world music. Their program will range from Mozart and Bach to Bernstein and Beatles classics, alongside original compositions. Gramophone has praised the group for “ranging from Baroque to nu-Metal and taking in pretty much every stylism in between.”

On Sunday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m., Toomai String Quintet will perform outdoors at Newport Craft, 293 JT Connell Hwy. The award-winning ensemble is celebrated for their inventive arrangements and focus on Latin American repertoire, drawing on Cuban and Brazilian musical traditions. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs and enjoy the scenic views of the Pell Bridge. Drinks will be available from Newport Craft’s outdoor bar.

Both concerts are free and open to the community. Advanced registration is requested but not required. More information is available at newportclassical.org/community-concerts.

The series is supported by the Newport County Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation and a legislative grant of the Rhode Island House of Representatives sponsored by Rep. Cortvriend and Speaker Shekarchi.
