The Jane Pickens Theater is inviting film lovers to step into the shadows this spring with a series of three landmark noir and neo-noir films screening in 4K restorations, each paired with a curated pinot noir tasting in the lobby before showtime.
The series kicks off March 24 with the 50th anniversary screening of Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” starring Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle, an isolated Vietnam veteran turned insomniac cab driver navigating the nocturnal underbelly of 1970s Manhattan. Written by Paul Schrader, the film also features an early performance by Jodie Foster. The screening is part of the theater’s Cult Classic Collection series.
Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” follows on April 28 as part of the Noir et Noir series. Widely considered one of the greatest films ever made, the psychological thriller stars James Stewart as an acrophobic detective who becomes obsessed with a mysterious woman, played by Kim Novak, against the backdrop of San Francisco.
The series concludes June 2 with Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown,” featuring Jack Nicholson as private eye J.J. “Jake” Gittes and Faye Dunaway as the enigmatic Evelyn Mulwray. Written by Robert Towne, who won an Academy Award for the screenplay, the film is widely regarded as one of the greatest noir films ever made.
All three screenings begin with doors and pinot noir tastings at 6:45 p.m.
Tickets are available at the box office and online at janepickens.com.
