Coventry rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit to stun Rogers 47-43 in a girls basketball playoff game Saturday at Rogers High School, with the Cougars advancing to the semifinals against Tiverton.

Rogers jumped out to a dominant 16-6 lead after the first quarter and appeared in control at 24-12 at halftime, fueled by Zaida Aponte’s 20-point night. But Coventry refused to fold, erupting for 17 points in the third quarter alone to claw back into the game before finishing off the comeback in the fourth.

Leah Lapham led the Coventry charge with 14 points, providing the offensive spark the Cougars needed to complete one of the more remarkable reversals of the postseason.

Abby Hole added nine points for Rogers, while Meadow McGee Rodriguez chipped in six and Lila Leys added five. The Vikings, who held what seemed like a commanding lead through three quarters, could not hold on as Coventry outscored them 35-19 in the second half.

Coventry advances to the semifinals, where the Cougars will face Tiverton.
