Gilded Age Orchestra Celebrate America 250 (The Preservation Society of Newport County)

A 30-piece professional orchestra will fill Rosecliff’s legendary ballroom with patriotic music later this month as part of a program marking America’s 250th anniversary.

The Gilded Age Orchestra of Newport will present “Celebrate America 250” on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bellevue Avenue mansion. The concert, hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport County, will trace the musical legacy of Newport from the American Revolution into the 20th century.

Conductors Dr. Christopher Brellochs and Dr. Mark Stickney will lead the ensemble through a program that includes the first piece performed for the American Centennial in Newport’s Washington Square on July 4, 1876. The concert will also feature music celebrating America composed by European artists.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a preconcert reception. Rosecliff is located at 548 Bellevue Ave.

Tickets are available at NewportMansions.org/events.
