Gardiner Provisions (Shannon Hammond)

The team behind the Gardiner House hotel has opened Gardiner Provisions, a new bakery and coffee bar at 429 Thames St.

The shop brings together house-made breads, French pastry classics and seasonal specialties alongside a carefully crafted coffee program, adding a new gathering spot to the Thames Street corridor.

The menu is led by Gardiner House Executive Chef and Director of Culinary Miguel Somoza, known for his mastery as both a pastry chef and boulanger. A signature in-house sourdough serves as the foundation of the baking program, complemented by classic European preparations and creative pastries. Offerings include house favorites such as pain au chocolat and organic banana bread alongside signature creations like The Bomb, a raspberry and cream cruffin finished with a pecan-apricot glaze.

“We celebrate the art of baking with bright, fresh flavors and a coastal flair,” Somoza said. “Guests can expect a taste of the excitement and joy we put into every recipe.”

The coffee program, developed by Director of Coffee Drew Medeiros, features expertly prepared espresso drinks, a rotating selection of cold beverages and house-made syrups in seasonal flavors such as vanilla, ube and maple sea salt. Medeiros also oversees custom blends for the shop.

The light-filled space is shaped by large pane windows and features a graphic patterned wall treatment by GP & J Baker, created in collaboration with Kit Kemp and inspired by Robina Jack’s hand-painted ceramics. A central table anchors the room, encouraging what the team describes as a shared, unhurried rhythm throughout the day.

Gardiner Provisions is the latest extension of the Gardiner House brand along Thames Street. Gardiner House is a 21-room boutique hotel also home to the Studio Bar and Chef Somoza’s signature restaurant, Flora, which offers a Mediterranean-inspired menu. The team also stewards the historic Francis Malbone House nearby.

Gardiner Provisions is open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
