The Salve Regina Seahawks turned a competitive first half into a commanding 25-point victory over the Coast Guard Bears on Saturday afternoon, winning 94-69 at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Senior captain Sean Seymour led the way with 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while fellow captain Jack McMullen added 18 points, connecting on four of his six 3-point attempts. In all, six Seahawks finished in double figures.
The first half featured six lead changes and three ties before Salve Regina took control, shooting over 50% from the field and going 8-of-8 from the free throw line to build a 45-36 halftime advantage.
The Seahawks (12-3, 5-1 NEWMAC) blew the game open after intermission, outscoring the Bears 49-33 in the second half. The balanced attack saw contributions from Pat Spenard (13 points), Zavier Francoeur (12), Jack Margoupis (10) and Rowan Linder (10 off the bench).
Coast Guard’s Luke Farrell led all scorers with 23 points, but the Bears (4-11, 0-7 NEWMAC) couldn’t keep pace with Salve’s efficient offense, which shot 53.7% for the game.
“The response from our group today was really great to see,” said head coach Sean Foster. “That’s a mature group in that locker room. They stayed together, stayed hungry, and came out today determined to play the right way.”
The win keeps Salve Regina atop the NEWMAC standings. The Seahawks host Babson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
