Stephen K. Quinn, 67, of Largo, FL and Middletown, RI, died of natural causes on August 30, 2025, at home in Largo.
Born in El Paso, TX on June 21, 1958, Stephen was the son of the late Paul S. and Denise Kirby Quinn of McLean, VA. and Middletown, RI. Stephen is survived by his brother Kevin, his wife Mary and their daughters Kaylie of Middletown and Irelynn of Plainfield, Connecticut. He is also survived by his uncles Thomas H. Quinn and his close friend Lynly Boor of Washington, D.C., Francis J. Quinn (Colleen) of Middletown, cousins Thomas H. Quinn Jr., Andrew B. Quinn, Oliver H. Quinn, Tara E. Reilly, Joseph F. Quinn and Mary C. Quinn, their spouses and their 14 children, and his aunt Kitty Kirby Greany and her children Johnny, Christopher, Cathy and Sharon Greany. He was the nephew of the late J. He spent his formative years in McLean having graduated from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA in 1975 and his summers in Middletown where he enjoyed sailing the speedy and reliable family boat, the Cara Sea, playing golf, gardening, and accumulating a life-time of dear friends. Steve attended Providence College where he and his classmates formed lifelong bonds over their loyalty to Friars basketball.
Steve was a successful small businessman who owned two Strudels and Cream restaurants in Florida. He was an accomplished chef who delighted in preparing his favorite version of New England clam chowder for the many family gatherings in Renfrew Park in Middletown.
Stephen traveled multiple times to Europe and had a special connection to Ireland where he played golf on the finest courses and visited with cousins.
Above all he was a kind and compassionate soul who devoted several decades to working in recovery programs where he helped, and was still helping, people at the time of his death. He had a keen sense of humor and could connect with anyone needing a friend. Stephen always said a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that consideration be given to making a memorial contribution in Stephen’s name to the Potter League for Animals 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842.
