A father and son were arrested Thursday morning on charges related to a sexual assault investigation, according to the Middletown Police Department.

Members of the Middletown Police Department, with assistance from the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, executed a court-authorized search warrant at 33 Beacon St. at approximately 6:30 a.m. as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Second Division District Court in Newport authorized the search warrant and arrest warrants following the establishment of probable cause related to a sexual assault investigation, police said. During the execution of the warrant, officers seized evidence and took two men into custody.

Mylikai Rene, 18, was charged with three counts of first-degree child molestation sexual assault. His father, Paul Rene, 72, was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child under 16.

Both were arraigned at Second Division District Court in Newport.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be forthcoming, police said. No further information is being released to protect the integrity of the investigation.
