Marty Supreme continues at The JPT

The JPT Film + Event Center has a packed schedule over the coming weeks, with the final showings of the critically acclaimed “Marty Supreme,” the opening of Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao’s latest film and a lineup of special events.

Now playing: ‘Marty Supreme’

“Marty Supreme,” directed by Josh Safdie, stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a charismatic hustler in 1950s New York City obsessed with achieving greatness in table tennis. The film, which draws comparisons to Safdie’s “Uncut Gems” and “The Color of Money,” also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, Tyler the Creator and Penn Jillette. Showings continue Tuesday through Thursday at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Opening Friday: ‘Hamnet’

Opening Friday, “Hamnet” tells the story of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife, Agnes (Jessie Buckley), as they navigate tragedy following the death of their young son — an event that inspires the playwright to create “Hamlet.” The drama from Zhao (“Nomadland”), rated PG-13, runs 125 minutes and will show through Feb. 5.

Special events

The JPT will host a screening of the classic 1927 sci-fi film “Metropolis” with a live musical score performed by Jeff Rapsis on Thursday, Jan. 29. The silent film, set in a futuristic city divided between the working class and city planners, follows the son of the city’s mastermind who falls in love with a working-class prophet.

On Friday, Jan. 30, House of Waves presents the premiere screening of “Situations” with the filmmaker in attendance. The film follows a Los Angeles-based photographer navigating a failing relationship.

Film noir fans can enjoy “Touch of Evil” paired with a pinot noir tasting on Monday, Feb. 3. The 1958 Orson Welles classic tells a story of murder, kidnapping and police corruption in a Mexican border town.

Also on the schedule, “You Got Gold: A Celebration of John Prine” runs Feb. 5-7. The documentary captures a star-studded tribute to the legendary songwriter, filmed in October 2022 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
