True North Theatre Company will bring its production of “An Iliad” to Jamestown Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 13, offering a modern retelling of Homer’s ancient epic that connects the battles of Troy to present-day conflicts.
The performance runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the arts center, 18 Valley St. Tickets are $15 and available at jamestownartcenter.org/events.
The play follows the Poet, a figure who has returned from the Trojan War bearing stories of rage, grief, capricious gods and the contradictions of glory and violence. The production blends spoken word, storytelling and original music to examine humanity’s persistent relationship with warfare. It runs approximately 100 minutes with no intermission.
The cast features Addison Roush and Chelsea Mitchell as the Poet, with Wylette Selvidio as the Muse. Brad Delzer, artistic director of True North Theatre, directs and designs the production. Colin Holter composed the original music.
True North Theatre Company focuses on bringing professional theater to communities with limited access to the arts. The company stages intentionally low-tech productions in nontraditional spaces, including libraries, cafeterias and community centers.
