The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $930 million ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, while a $50,000 winning ticket sold in Middletown remains unclaimed, according to the Rhode Island Lottery.
The unclaimed ticket was purchased at Joe’s Kwik Marts, 864 West Main Road, from the Saturday, Dec. 6, drawing. The lottery is encouraging players to check their tickets using scanners at retailers or through the lottery’s website and mobile app.
Players should sign the back of all lottery tickets, officials said. Winning tickets are payable to the bearer upon verification of identification and signature.
Meanwhile, Rhode Island saw its first eInstant “Mega” jackpot winner, a Middletown resident who won $174,960 playing the Jingle Jackpots eInstant game. The winner said his wife still doesn’t believe it. A casual player, he typically tries eInstant jackpot games when prizes grow large and plans to use the winnings for his son’s college tuition at the University of Rhode Island.
A Cranston resident also claimed a $40,000 prize from a “50X the Money” instant ticket purchased at Shaw’s Supermarket, 320 Warwick Ave., Warwick. He said he plans to invest his winnings in real estate.
