The city is seeking residents, business owners and community stakeholders to serve on an advisory committee that will help shape Newport’s long-term planning vision.
The Newport Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee will support Newport 2037, the city’s update to its Comprehensive Plan, which serves as the primary planning document guiding decisions on land use and policy.
Applications are being accepted through Jan. 23 at CityofNewport.com/NCPAC.
The committee will consist of 20 to 25 members representing a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences. Members will work with city staff and planning consultant Interface Studio LLC on preparation, public engagement and community advocacy efforts associated with the plan update.
The City Council will appoint committee members, who are expected to meet virtually every other month through November 2026. Members will also participate in public engagement activities.
Committee responsibilities include reviewing drafts and materials prepared by the consultant team, contributing to meetings and workshops, advocating for the plan within the community and helping ensure diverse voices are included throughout the process.
The advisory committee is one of several ways residents can participate in the Newport 2037 process. Additional opportunities include community workshops and open houses, topic-specific focus groups, surveys, an interactive online mapping portal, an in-person experience at City Hall and public hearings before the City Council and Planning Board.
Residents can also complete an online survey and participate in an interactive mapping exercise at CityofNewport.com/Newport2037.
