Charlotte Hu (Dario Acosta)

Internationally acclaimed pianist Charlotte Hu will perform at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, Jan. 18, as part of the Jamestown Community Piano Concert Series.

The 2 p.m. concert will feature works by three virtuosos of the Romantic era: Frédéric Chopin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Franz Liszt.

“It includes some of the most well known and beloved works by Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, music that speaks to the heart,” Hu said.

The Taiwanese-American pianist, praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “first class talent” and “superb pianist,” has performed sold-out concerts at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, and other prestigious venues worldwide.

Hu’s program will include Chopin’s Berceuse, Barcarolle, and Polonaise “Heroic,” as well as four of Rachmaninoff’s Etudes-tableaux, Op. 39, and Liszt’s Five Lieder Transcriptions.

Chopin has been central to Hu’s career. Her 2011 debut solo album dedicated to the composer was named Best Classical Album of the Year by Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award. Her most recent recording, “Liszt: Metamorphosis,” was released on PENTATONE in July 2024.

A Steinway Artist, Hu serves as an associate professor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee and artist in residence at Temple University. She is also the founder of two piano festivals: the Yun-Hsiang International Music Festival in Taipei and the PYPA Piano Festival in Philadelphia.

Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church is located at 87 Narragansett Ave. in Jamestown.
