Sakonnet Vineyard will pair five wines with a three-course meal and stories from one of Newport’s Gilded Age landmarks at a dinner Thursday evening.
The Bubbles & Belcourt event begins at 5 p.m. and features dishes prepared by Chef Andrew Bonamassa of Bar & Board in Newport. David Bettencourt, general manager of Belcourt Mansion, will share stories and images from the historic property.
The dinner will debut Sakonnet’s Chanbrusco, a sparkling red made from estate-grown Chancellor grapes. The wine is produced using traditional method and left un-disgorged, yielding deep fruit flavors with fine bubbles and a dry finish.
The evening opens with the vineyard’s Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling wine made from old vine Chardonnay and Vidal Blanc that spent 10 years on the lees before being riddled and disgorged by hand.
The menu includes beet-cured salmon with puffed farro and whipped ricotta, seared lamb chops with red wine and balsamic reduction, and prosciutto-wrapped scallops with saffron bell pepper puree.
Sakonnet Vineyard, founded in 1975, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Little Compton property spans 169 acres, with more than 20 acres planted to vines, and is recognized as New England’s oldest vineyard.
Tickets are $130 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity, and are available on the vineyard’s website.
