A 59-year-old Middletown man was arrested Sunday night after barricading himself inside his Green End Avenue home during a domestic disturbance investigation, police said.

Clayton Frable faces charges of domestic violence simple assault and/or battery, second offense, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, according to a press release from the Middletown Police Department.

Police responded to Frable’s residence at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday for a disturbance. Frable refused to allow investigating officers into the home but permitted a 44-year-old Middletown woman to leave before barricading himself inside, according to police.

The woman was evaluated by Middletown Fire Department rescue personnel and transported to Newport Hospital for her injuries.

The Newport County Special Response Team and Rhode Island State Police were called to the scene to assist. An NCSRT negotiator communicated with Frable, who eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Frable was held overnight at the Middletown Police Department and is scheduled to be arraigned in Second District Court on Monday morning.
