Roger Federer, winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame next year, the organization announced Wednesday.
Federer will enter the hall in the player category alongside Mary Carillo, a broadcast journalist who will be inducted as a contributor. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 27-29 in Newport, Rhode Island.
The Swiss star is one of eight men to complete a career Grand Slam in singles and was the first man to win 20 major singles titles. He held the No. 1 ranking for a record 237 consecutive weeks and 310 total weeks during his career.
Federer won 103 ATP singles titles and received the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 13 times. He was voted ATP Fan Favorite for 19 consecutive years.
He also won an Olympic gold medal in doubles in 2008 and led Switzerland to the 2014 Davis Cup title. Federer created the Laver Cup to honor hall of famer Rod Laver.
Hall of famers Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker joined more than 20 other inductees in congratulating Federer at Swiss Tennis, where he began his career.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions,” Federer said in a statement.
Carillo became the first woman to regularly provide commentary for tennis broadcasts. She has covered hundreds of events for major networks and was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2018.
She has also covered 16 Olympic Games and served as a correspondent for HBO’s “Real Sports,” winning six Emmy Awards and three Peabody Awards.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized in the company of so many other legends and colleagues of the tennis world,” Carillo said.
The inductees will join 270 hall of famers representing 28 countries.
Tickets for the induction ceremony will go on sale Feb. 11.
