A magnificent unrestored 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 “Rimoldi” Corto Spyder captured Best of Show honors Sunday at the 2025 Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance, besting 184 classic automobiles from across the United States and Europe.
The winning car, owned by Chris MacAllister, also took first place in the Pre-War Alfa Romeo class at the prestigious event held on the grounds of The Breakers mansion, the historic Vanderbilt family estate.
The vehicle, regarded as designer Vittorio Jano’s masterpiece, competed in the 1935 Monte Carlo Rally and remained in the ownership of British-Italian ice merchant Giulio Rimoldi for more than 50 years until his death in 1988.
A 1965 Triumph Spitfire Mk2 Roadster, owned by Stephen and James Russell, won the People’s Choice award. The father-son restoration project featured a sleek body and newly rebuilt engine.

“Owners like Chris play a vital role in preserving the legacy of classic cars and ensuring that these remarkable vehicles continue to be celebrated for generations to come,” said Nic Waller, Audrain Group president.
The concours drew 70 judges from four countries to evaluate entries across 27 classes. The Breakers served as an apt venue for the competition, as the Vanderbilt family included Willie K. Vanderbilt, one of the early 20th century’s greatest automotive enthusiasts.
The 2026 Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance is scheduled for Oct. 4.
