Ann Elizabeth Desjardin, beloved wife of 40 years to Henry “Hank” J. Desjardin, Jr., passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, after a period of declining health. She was 79 years old. Ann was born and raised in Newport, RI, one of seven children to [the late] Robert and Letty (Church) Quarry.
After graduating from Rogers H.S. in Newport, she attended the University of Rhode Island. She first worked as a maid for Felix De Weldon’s Beacon Rock estate in Newport, Rhode Island. She later became employed for The Colonial Ice Cream Parlor in Middletown, Rhode Island, a position she enjoyed for many years. She then became employed as a secretary for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union # 176 of Newport, R.I. She was a longtime member of The Zabriskie Memorial Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Newport.
In the early 1980s, Ann relocated with Hank to Upton, MA and then Shrewsbury where the couple has resided for the past 35 years. With her move to Massachusetts, Ann began a longtime position as a sales associate with Sharfmans Jewelry store which was in the former Worcester Galleria Mall. Ann most recently worked for the Worcester County Food Bank as an inspector.
Ann found relaxation by reading, challenging herself with crossword puzzles and many trips to Newport to visit with family. Friends and family will miss her Ann’s strong yet loving personality.
In addition to her husband, Ann is survived by her five siblings: Robert Quarry of Gouverneur, NY, Ernest Quarry and his wife Carol of Middletown, RI, Letty Ray Champion and her husband Ronald of N. Kingston, RI, Stephen Quarry and wife Ann of Newport, RI, Patricia Dresser and husband David of Mulberry, FL and Claire Taylor (wife of George Quarry); several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother George Quarry.
At this time, there are no public services planned. A private gathering of family will occur at a future time at Ann’s favorite place within Battery Park – on the Point.
