The eighth annual Broadway Street Fair will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. along Newport’s Broadway, rain or shine.

More than 200 artisans, makers and food vendors will line “Newport’s Main Street” alongside local bands and entertainment for the free public event, according to a press release.

The street fair begins at Equality Park and extends into historic Washington Square, featuring fine artists, crafters and specialty food vendors. Activities include chalk art, plein air painting, kids paint parties with Mermaid Masterpieces, food trucks and busking performers along the route.

Additional attractions include a car show, touch-a-truck display and the Newport Vineyards Beyond Broadway Beer Garden at Provence Sur Mer.

Headlining performances will take place at the Old Colony House stage, featuring legendary New York rocker Willie Nile with his full band celebrating their new release “The Great Yellow Light.” Newport-based reggae act The Ravers are scheduled to perform at 3:30 p.m.

Organizers strongly encourage attendees to walk, bike or take the bus to the event. Broadway will be closed to vehicle traffic with no parking available on the street, though handicap accessible parking will be available near the route.

The event is sponsored by presenting sponsor Peoples Credit Union along with support from the City of Newport, A1 Roofing & Construction, Discover Newport, Little Rhody Pasta, Newport Cannabis Company and other local businesses.

Planning meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17, with volunteer orientation on Wednesday, Oct. 8, both at 5:30 p.m. at the Newport Police Station community room at 120 Broadway.

The Broadway Street Fair celebrates Newport’s Local Broadway District and typically draws nearly 15,000 people annually. Complete details, vendor lists and musical lineups are available at broadwaystreetfairnpt.com.
