East Main Road Pavement Improvements, Middletown (via RIDOT)

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will continue its ongoing pavement improvement project along East Main Road in Middletown with a two-week construction phase beginning next week, officials announced Friday.

RIDOT crews will install new curbing in both directions along Route 138 from Meadow Lane to Wyatt Road and reconstruct drainage structures throughout the corridor. The work will require lane shifts with one lane maintained in each direction during construction hours.

The current phase will begin Tuesday, Aug. 12, with crews working Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the first week. Work will resume the following week on a traditional Monday through Friday schedule during the same hours.

Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone and expect minor delays, according to RIDOT. The department has also issued a separate travel advisory noting that lane shifts will be needed at the intersection of Route 138 and Turner Road for related curb and drainage work.

The full update from RIDOT is provided below;

Next week, they will be working Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The following week, they’ll be back to Monday-Friday. Please use caution when driving through the work zone and expect minor delays.

Letter to the Editor: School Committee meeting leaves many in our community feeling deeply disappointed and, frankly, unsettled

“I am writing in response to this week’s school committee meeting, which left many in our community feeling deeply disappointed and, frankly, unsettled. My concerns are twofold: first, the committee’s decision-making process regarding the relocation of fifth grade, and second, the conduct of committee leadership at the close of that meeting.”
