NEWPORT, R.I. — Bike Newport’s signature summer event returns Saturday, Aug. 23, as the seventh annual 10-Spot Ride welcomes 300 cyclists for a five-hour tour of Newport’s hidden gems.
The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., allows participants to explore 10 carefully selected locations throughout the city, ranging from secret gardens and downtown houses to oceanfront mansions. Most locations are private homes not typically accessible to the public.
“The 10-Spot really is a unique experience for everyone involved,” said Paul Leys, a past host of one of the locations, along with co-host Mardi Corcoran. “There was a sense of exploration and discovery — and all by bicycle.”
Participants receive their starting location via email the day before the event, spreading cyclists across Newport at the beginning. Upon arrival, riders receive a QR code with all 10 locations, which they can visit in any order throughout the day.
Each location features food from 13 local restaurants and performances by 22 local musicians, plus special appearances by Newport Contemporary Ballet.
Heritage Restaurant Group serves as the event’s lead sponsor, providing four featured restaurants. Additional sponsors include Southcoast Health, Kirby Perkins, VHB, the Aramli Foundation, Gustave White Sotheby’s Realty, Horan Building Company, BayCoast Bank and Starkweather & Shepley.
Restaurant partners include A Mano Pizza, Caleb & Broad, Cru Cafe, Diego’s, Hawk & Handsaw, La Forge, Le Bec Sucre, Newport Craft, Pour Judgement, The Quencher, Stoneacre Brasserie, Vieste Simply Italian and Wally’s Wieners.
Musicians scheduled to perform include Allysen Callery, Avi Jacob, Brenda Delasanta and Jan Navarro, Dan Ferrazzoli and Mike Fontaine, DJ Darwin, Dragonfly Marie, Ed McGuirl and Tom Perrotti, Ilana Katz Katz, Jesús Andujar, Jon Dember, Lois Vaughan Trio, Mel, Mountain Laurel String Band, Newport Festivals Jazz Lab, Newport String Project, Rhode to Dublin, Ryan Lee Crosby, Saxo Chom, Sunny Lee Piano and Three Steps Jazz.
Past participants praised the event in post-ride surveys. “This is hands down the best way to see Newport,” one rider commented. Another said, “I look forward to this event all summer long! Best event in Newport!”
Lisa Morrison, a past host and annual participant, said the event “brings together fun and beauty in people, food, music, and hidden gem locations — all connected by a delightful bike ride around Newport.”
All proceeds support Bike Newport’s education and advocacy programs aimed at making cycling safer and more accessible throughout the region.
