Tiverton High School’s softball team has secured the Division 3 championship in a nail-biting 9-8 extra-inning win against Cranston East at Rhode Island College.

The Tigers pulled off an impressive comeback, erasing a five-run deficit. They scored two crucial runs in the seventh inning to push the game into extra innings before clinching the victory in the ninth.

Lia Doster came through with the game-winning hit, an infield single that brought Brooke Sowa home from third base. Sowa had started the ninth with a single and advanced on well-executed bunts by Kelsey Conway and Lexi Boissonneau.

Tiverton was down 7-2 after four innings but staged a comeback thanks to stellar relief pitching from freshman Liliana Luis. Luis stepped in during the fourth inning and gave up just one run while racking up 12 strikeouts over six innings.

Doster’s sacrifice fly in the seventh brought Luis home, tying the game and setting the stage for extra innings.

Sara Poland, Sowa, and Boissonneau led Tiverton’s offense with a combined eight hits. Sowa topped the team with three RBIs.

This win marks Tiverton’s first-ever Division 3 softball championship in the school’s history.
