Portsmouth High School’s boys lacrosse team is heading to the Division 2 state championship after a nail-biting 10-9 overtime win against Middletown in the semifinals. The game, held at Gaudet Middle School, kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams traded goals throughout regulation time.

Chase Pascoe emerged as the hero for Portsmouth, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. The match was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to pull ahead by more than a goal or two. Middletown’s Griffin Kleinknecht forced the extra period by tying the game late in the fourth quarter.

Rafferty Dionne led the charge for Portsmouth with five goals, while Middletown’s Patrick Cranson matched that impressive tally for the Islanders.

Portsmouth’s goalie, Jack Colna, had a memorable night, reaching a career milestone with his 500th save during the game. Colna finished with 13 saves on 22 shots and received a special game ball to mark his achievement. On the other side of the field, Middletown’s goalkeeper Corey Chiodo put up a strong fight with 17 saves on 27 shots.

With this win, Portsmouth secures its spot in the Division 2 state championship game, capping off an intense semifinal matchup that showcased the talent and determination of both teams.
