Ocean Hour Farm will open to the public for the first time, offering guided tours of its 43-acre property in Newport.

Visitors to the farm, which formerly operated as the SVF Foundation, will witness the farm’s transition to regenerative farming and learn how they can contribute to protecting ocean health.

“We’re excited to welcome the community to see regenerative farming firsthand and learn how your garden and lawn care choices can benefit Narragansett Bay,” said Sara Wuerstle, farm director at Ocean Hour Farm. “No matter your experience, touring our rain gardens, food forest, meadows, and composting center will inspire you to enhance biodiversity and care for our soil and seas.”

Ocean Hour Farm is part of the philanthropic organizations and initiatives created and funded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt to work toward a healthy, resilient, secure world for all.

Ocean Hour Farm is a center for education, research, and demonstration of regenerative practices, highlighting the critical connection between land and ocean health. The Farm provides a living example of sustainable agriculture and land stewardship as an integrated system where plants, animals, and people sequester carbon, clean stormwater, build soil and produce food and fiber.

“Over the past two and a half years, our staff has engaged more than 1,500 adults and youth through on-site programming, and now, we’re excited to open our doors even wider,” said Beth Alaimo, education program manager at Ocean Hour Farm. “There’s nothing better than sharing the methods behind the farm’s magic, and seeing someone realize that environmental solutions can create abundance.”

The two-hour tours are free, but registration is required on Eventbrite. Due to limited parking and the interactive format, attendance is capped at 25 participants.
