newportFILM is set to screen a documentary about trailblazing astronaut Sally Ride in Newport next week.

The organization, teaming up with Newport Out and NASA Rhode Island Space Grant Consortium, will show “SALLY” at the Casino Theatre on May 22.

This Sundance Film Festival selection dives into Ride’s professional achievements and personal life. Tam O’Shaughnessy, Ride’s partner of 27 years, offers an unprecedented look into the astronaut’s story.

Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Cristina Costantini directed the critically acclaimed National Geographic Documentary Films production.

Ride made history on June 18, 1983, becoming the first American woman in space aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Tickets for this one-night-only event are expected to sell out quickly, so interested viewers should act quickly to secure their spots.
