Newport Festivals Rhode Island License Plate (via Newport Festivals Foundation)

The Newport Festivals Foundation, producers of the Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival, is rolling out an official Rhode Island license plate to boost music education for students across the state.

Money from each plate will go towards providing free music lessons for Rhode Island students through the Newport Festivals Foundation’s Free Music Lessons program.

The foundation shared the news on Tuesday via social media and its website.

“We are excited to debut our very own official Rhode Island license plate! Proceeds from each plate will provide free music lessons for Rhode Island students,” Newport Folk Festival shared.

You can now pre-order a limited number of plates through the Newport Festivals website for $42.50 each. From that, $20 goes straight to the Newport Festivals Foundation.

Before plate production and distribution can start, the foundation needs to secure at least 600 pre-orders. These pre-orders can’t be refunded, and payments will be held until they reach the minimum number.

“Newport Festivals Foundation, the nonprofit behind the Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival, is excited to debut a brand new charity license plate for Rhode Island music lovers. Proceeds will support the Foundation’s Free Music Lessons program, providing free, high-quality private music lessons for all Rhode Island students,” the organization says on its website.

The plates are only for active Rhode Island vehicle registrations and are limited to passenger vehicles. You can keep your current plate number, but the foundation can’t accommodate custom or vanity plates.

Once pre-orders hit capacity, you’ll need to process future orders through the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles.
