The Newport Water Division will begin its annual Spring water main flushing program throughout Newport on Sunday, April 27. This essential maintenance is part of the Division’s continued efforts to maintain high water quality throughout the distribution system.

Flushing will occur in designated areas during the overnight hours of 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and signs will be posted in each area before flushing begins.

During this time, residents may experience temporary water discoloration and reduced water pressure. Although flushing is targeted to specific areas, it can also cause discolored water in surrounding neighborhoods. If discolored water is observed, run cold water taps (such as bathroom sinks, kitchen faucets, and tubs) for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the water runs clear. This will help flush any residual discolored water from your home’s plumbing. Residents are also encouraged to limit water use during flushing hours.

For additional information, please contact the Newport Water Division at (401) 845-5600.

Note: The flushing schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
