New playground at King Park (via City of Newport)

Newport has just opened a new playground at King Park, giving local kids a fresh spot to play and have fun. The city built the play area on higher ground to protect it from high tides.

The City of Newport announced on Facebook on Thursday, “The brand new playground at King Park is officially open!”

While kids can already enjoy the playground, the city’s Public Services team is putting on the finishing touches. In the next few days, they’ll add a bike rack and spruce up the landscaping.

This playground is just one of Newport’s many upgrades around the city. They’ve already improved play areas at Braga Park, Murphy Field, Cardines Field, Hunter Park, and Morton Park, all funded through the city’s Capital Improvement Plan.

And it looks like there’s more to come. The city hinted at “other fun investments still to come!” in their Facebook post, so Newport residents can look forward to even more improvements in the future.
