East Greenwich/Toll Gate Co-Op claimed the Division 2 Rhode Island State Hockey Championship with a 4-3 overtime victory against Portsmouth at Providence College’s Schneider Arena on Sunday.

The championship game featured a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, with Portsmouth’s Shane Temple scoring twice in the losing effort.

The Patriots and East Greenwich/Toll Gate traded goals and big hits throughout regulation time, ending tied at 3-3 before East Greenwich/Toll Gate secured the championship with the game-winning goal in overtime.

Portsmouth’s offensive attack was led by Temple (#15) with two goals, while Connor Rogers (#7) contributed one goal for the Patriots.

Despite a strong offensive showing and competitive play that forced overtime, Portsmouth ultimately fell short of capturing the state title.
