The Chanler at Cliff Walk is introducing a new dining experience called Remy’s Loose.

The restaurant, replacing The Cafe at The Chanler, opens its doors for dinner on March 5.

Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski leads the culinary team in creating what The Chanler describes as “intrinsically French cuisine elevated by the bold flavors of coastal Rhode Island.”

“This endeavor, which has been one built on years of learning, dreaming, and perfecting the concept of Remy’s Loose, represents the start of an incredibly exciting new chapter for The Chanler at Cliff Walk,” Proprietress Lani Shufelt shares with What’sUpNewp.

The restaurant’s name pays homage to Shufelt’s niece, continuing The Chanler’s tradition of family-inspired elements.

Remy’s Loose will serve lunch daily from noon to 2:45 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 8:45 p.m. The Chanler says the menus are “both sophisticated and approachable, and made up of plates that can be adapted to any dining style.”

The culinary offerings prioritize fresh local catches and thoughtfully sourced ingredients from both nearby and around the world. The beverage program features garden-inspired cocktails with seasonal ingredients, an extensive wine list highlighting Old and New World producers, and innovative non-alcoholic options.

“Every corner of this space has been infused with the heart and soul of our team and interwoven with the heritage of the property and the many lives this home has lived throughout its history,” Shufelt explains.

The restaurant’s design, led by Studio Valerius, aims to create a welcoming and stylish space suitable for various dining experiences. Cozy banquettes, soft lighting curated by BOLD, and artful touches contribute to an inviting atmosphere.

A terrace with ocean views provides an alfresco dining option, while an open kitchen layout allows guests to watch the culinary process unfold.

“More than a restaurant, Remy’s Loose celebrates the dazzling story of The Chanler, and foreshadows the legacy we hope to continue creating here,” Shufelt adds.

The Chanler describes the new concept as having “a personality that exudes the spirit of The Chanler’s fine dining menu-less sister restaurant Cara.” They aim for Remy’s Loose to be “an experience in which culinary discovery may take flight.”

Shufelt, the sole owner and operator of the hotel, sees Remy’s Loose as a culmination of her passion for luxury experiences, design, storytelling, and attention to detail.

“Through Remy’s Loose and the robust culinary program we have created at the hotel, we’re redefining the gastronomic experience as one knows it and have set out to transform and elevate not just the culinary offerings on the property but Newport’s dining scene as a whole,” she says.

The Chanler at Cliff Walk, located at the start of Newport’s famous Cliff Walk, features 20 uniquely designed rooms reflecting different historical periods or themes. The hotel offers various amenities, including complimentary transportation to local events and activities.
