Sharon Van Etten and the Attachment Theory opened their national tour at the United Theatre in Westerly on Saturday, February 1, with a high-energy, crowd-pleasing concert before a full house of loyal followers and new fans. The band was tight, with a cool vibe on display throughout the performance. Despite battling a cold, Van Etten connected nicely with the audience, delivering solid vocals, and conveying her emotive, confessional lyrics effectively.

Van Etten shined on several tunes including “Trouble,” “Afterlife” and “Southern Life(What it Might Be Like), from the band’s new album Sharon Van Etten and the Attachment Theory. Additional highlights included “Tarifa,” dedicated to the memory of David Lynch, and encore “Seventeen.” After spending the week rehearsing in Westerly, the band is off to shows in Woodstock, NY, and Ashbury Park, NJ, before heading to Europe later in the month.

Brooklyn, NYC’s She Keeps Bees opened the evening with a strong set – and word has that Van Etten will be producing their next album. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, check out some photos of the evening below from WUN Lifestyle Editor Ken Abrams.
