The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) is alerting customers about a new text message scam targeting toll users.
RITBA Executive Director Lori Caron Silveira stresses the organization’s commitment to protecting customers from fraud. She emphasizes that any messages claiming recipients owe money for Rhode Island tolls are scams.

“We’re committed to helping protect our customers from fraud,” said Silveira. “These ‘smishing’ messages are all scams. To check the status of your account, go to our official website. If you are not an E-Z Pass customer and choose to pay per toll by mail, you will receive your invoices in the mail.”
RITBA advises customers to visit the official E-ZPass website at https://www.ezpassritba.com/ to review their accounts safely.
For those who aren’t E-ZPass customers and choose to pay tolls by mail, Silveira confirms they’ll receive invoices through regular mail.
If you want to report this smishing scam, you can visit the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/. You can also forward suspicious texts to 7726 (SPAM) to alert mobile providers.
To stay up-to-date, RITBA encourages customers to follow their official social media accounts. You can find updates on X (formerly Twitter) at @RIEZPASS and on Facebook by searching for “Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority.”
