newportFILM today announced that it is screening the Oscar-shortlisted documentary “PORCELAIN WAR” on January 9 at The Casino Theatre in Newport.

The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with doors opening for food and drinks. 401 Food Shack will be on hand selling BBQ, beer, and wine. The film starts at 7 p.m.

“PORCELAIN WAR” tells the story of Slava Leontyev, Anya Stasenko, and Andrey Stefanov, who choose to stay in Ukraine despite daily shelling. Each finds their own way to cope: Anya pours herself into her art, Andrey documents their experiences on camera, and Slava becomes a weapons instructor for civilians.

The documentary features music from the Ukrainian band DakhaBrakha, adding an authentic soundtrack to the powerful visuals.

With producers from acclaimed documentaries “THE COVE” and “CHASING ICE” behind it, “PORCELAIN WAR” offers a unique look at how artists maintain their creativity and resilience in the face of conflict.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through newportFILM’s website.
