Salve Regina University’s Dance program is set to present “True North,” a vibrant concert featuring contemporary and jazz dance performances. The event runs from November 21-23 at the Casino Theatre in Newport.

The showcase brings together works by guest artists, faculty, and students. Joanne Baker from Decidedly Jazz Danceworks is restaging “Ellington Suite,” a piece choreographed by Vicki Adams Willis and set to Duke Ellington’s music.

Guest artist Ana G. Delgado Cruz will perform “Dundun,” drawing inspiration from her Puerto Rican roots. Faculty member Mekbul Jemal Tahir presents “Shout,” a piece grounded in Ethiopian culture and Acogny dance technique. Another faculty member, Ashley Omisore, debuts “It’s Time,” a celebration of women’s strength.

Salve students Livia Armstrong, Lexi Callaghan, Trinity Leite, Taylor Steeves, and Julia Paulo are also showcasing their original works.

Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on November 21, 22, and 23, with an extra 2 p.m. performance on November 23.

Ticket prices are $17 for general admission, $14 for children, military members and seniors, and $10 for Salve Regina faculty and staff. Salve students with valid ID get in free.
