Charles Roberts, Founder and Executive Director of Rhode Island Slave History Medallions (RISHM), was recently presented with a $4,000 legislative grant.

The grant recognizes the achievements of Roberts and his organization in marking historic slave trading sites in Newport’s Historic Hill district.

Representatives Lauren Carson and Marvin L. Abney of the Rhode Island General Assembly presented the grant at RISHM’s Newport Black History Cultural Center on Pelham Street. The center is expected to open to the public next month.
