On November 2 and 3, the Newport Historical Society (NHS) will host its first-ever Members Weekend to thank and celebrate its most engaged supporters.

Throughout the weekend, all NHS members will have free access to walking tours and select NHS properties, an additional 10% discount on top of their existing 20% discount at the Museum of Newport History & Shop, and discounted $10 tickets for a Rum & Revolution Walking Tour that includes a rum tasting at Stoneacre Brasserie.

“Newport Historical Society members believe in the importance of preserving our past and celebrating how Newport’s history informs our city’s rich and vibrant culture and community today,” said Executive Director Rebecca Bertrand in a statement. “We organized this first-of-its-kind event for the organization to show our tremendous gratitude to these dedicated members and to invite more of our friends, neighbors, and supporters to consider connecting with Newport in a new way by becoming an NHS member.”

As part of Members Weekend, the Colony House, Great Friends Meeting House, and the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House – a treasured property that is currently in a capital campaign to create a center for Black history – will be open from 12 to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Members of the 1854 Society will also be invited to experience an exclusive, registration-only vault tour at the Richard I. Burnham Resource Center on Friday, November 1, at 2:30 p.m.

In addition to hundreds of current members, those interested in membership can sign up during Members Weekend and immediately gain access to all membership and event benefits. General membership benefits include discounted rates on research services; a 20% discount on purchases made at the Museum & Shop; subscription to annual NHS publications; exclusive email content and deals; free admission to NHS properties; reduced admission for tours, lectures, and events; and free access to hundreds of other cultural institutions across the country. Membership rates start at just $50 for an individual.
