Australian Ambassador to the U.S. Kevin Rudd is set to join Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed for a public conversation about strategic challenges facing their two democracies. The event will take place at Salve Regina University on Oct. 15.
The Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy is hosting the discussion, which will center on the AUKUS partnership and how the two countries are responding to China’s growing influence.
The talk is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Bazarsky lecture hall of the O’Hare academic building, located at 36 Ochre Point Ave.
Rudd has been serving as Australia’s ambassador to the United States since March 2023. His political career includes two stints as Australia’s prime minister (2007-2010 and 2013) and a term as foreign affairs minister.
Reed, the senior U.S. senator from Rhode Island, heads the Senate Armed Services Committee. He’s also involved in several other committees, including Appropriations and Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.
For those unfamiliar, AUKUS is a security agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which was announced in 2021.
The event is open to everyone, and you can register now. If you want more details or to sign up, head over to the Pell Center’s website..
