A historic mansion in Newport, Rhode Island has sold for $10 million, making it the highest sale in the state in 2024, according to the real estate firm Lila Delman Compass.

The Orchard mansion on Narragansett Avenue was built in 1873 and is listed as a landmark property. It offers 14 bedrooms, 13 full and four-half baths, and more than 20,000 square feet of living space, according to a release from Lila Delman Compass.

The home was well restored in 2019 and boasts a number of original features, including dentil molding, handsome paneling, marble floors, handcrafted mahogany doors, and marble fireplaces.

“It’s one of the greatest honors of my career to help broker the sale of The Orchard, one of Newport’s great legacy estates,” said Kara Malkovich, of Lila Delman Compass’s Newport office.

“My connection to the property dates back to one of its early owners – Mrs. Elizabeth (Mrs. Harvey S. Jr. “Betty”) Firestone, an elegant woman and wonderful hostess, who was a dear friend of my late father, a connoisseur and generous patron of the arts,” Malkovich continued.

“As a young child, I remember visiting the grounds of The Orchard before accompanying him for lunch with Mrs. Firestone, at her abutting main home. To me, selling real estate is more than just numbers, it’s about serving my clients new and old. I thrive on making connections and building deep relationships. It is especially meaningful to continue these bonds through the generations.”
