The Audubon Society of Rhode Island will host a presentation on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Tiverton about how to create healthy habitats for birds and insects in our own backyards.

The free event, titled “Landscaping for Birds and Insects,” will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Tiverton Public Library, located at 34 Roosevelt Avenue in Tiverton, Rhode Island. The program will be led by Katie Schortmann, the Pollinator Outreach Coordinator at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, and will include information about the different types of native plants that can be used to support local wildlife in the backyard.

The presentation will also include time for questions and sharing of ideas. The event is made possible through a grant provided by the RI Office of Library and Information Services.

The statewide Grow RI Native Seeds (GRINS) program, which is part of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s mission, aims to empower Rhode Islanders to grow and champion native plants via seeds, information, and programming organized by local libraries. This program is a great way for people of all ages to learn about the importance of protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, while also practical and useful in the everyday world.

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island is dedicated to protecting birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through conservation, education, and advocacy. The society’s mission is to promote a healthy environment for wildlife and people, and to ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty and diversity of Rhode Island.
