Kameron Misner, a standout from the 2017 Newport Gulls, has achieved a significant milestone by making his Major League Baseball debut, becoming the 35th alumni from the Newport Gulls to reach the big leagues.
Misner, originally drafted in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals, played college baseball at the University of Missouri. He was re-drafted in 2019, this time by the Miami Marlins with the 35th overall pick. After spending five years in the minors, Misner received the call-up to the MLB with the Tampa Bay Rays.
After his freshman year at Missouri, Misner spent the summer of 2017 with the Newport Gulls, where he made a remarkable impact. He batted .378 with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs, 13 doubles, and 14 stolen bases, earning him a spot as an NECBL All-Star. His outstanding performance in Newport set the stage for a successful collegiate career, as he hit .360 in his following season at Missouri. Over his three years at Missouri, Misner posted a career batting average of .302 with 21 home runs and 91 RBIs.
Misner’s professional career began in the Marlins organization, where he played from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, he was with the Montgomery Biscuits in the Rays’ organization and was subsequently called up to AAA with the Durham Bulls in 2023. He played 94 games with Durham in 2024 before making his MLB debut on August 2nd with the Rays in Houston.
Newport is extremely proud of Misner’s achievement to this point in time and wishes him continued success in his Major League career.
